Five school children were seriously injured when their school transport which is a minibus taxi lost control and hit a tree on Tuesday in Soweto.

The five injured kids were rushed to hospital, whilst another 11 sustained minor injuries.

An eye witness told Daily Sun that the taxi was travelling from Braamfischer to Fleurhof when the accident happened.

“We don’t know what happened. The taxi just lost control and crashed,” said Nonkululeko Zondi (38), who was driving on the same road.

No one could tell what must have caused the accident.

“I just thought of my kid, who also uses scholar transport.”

“We’re not sure what caused the taxi to lose control,” said Mbuso Thabethe (36), another motorist.

“But we’re glad no life was lost.”

Metro cop Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed the accident.
