A mother and her two children died due to rat poison at their home in Mpumalanga on Friday. While it appears that the woman wanted to commit suicide it does not seem that she had intended for the children to die.
Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, police spokesperson, the woman (49) allegedly ate chicken sprinkled with rat poison. After she left the room her two children age 6 and 11, ate the same meat.
The older brother of the two children came across the body of his mother and siblings. The mother already died and the children were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. “Police have registered an inquest, as well as a culpable homicide docket for investigation, as the woman left a note indicating that her family should take care of her children, but unfortunately they also died, ” he said.
