MEC Lesufi depressed by the passing of yet another learner

The Gauteng MEC for Education and Youth Development, Mr. Panyaza Lesufi is depressed by yet another death of a 11 year-old Grade 6 girl learner from Raikana Primary School, in Soshanguve who was, on the 12 February 2020 knocked down by a Motor Vehicle, ironically by an educator from Arethabeng Primary School.

Accordingly, the deceased learner was rushed to a local clinic, Unfortunately the learner died while receiving medical attention at the clinic.

On a separate incident, Today, 12 February 2020, a 15 year-old learner in autism and non-verbal phase, Ecaleni School for learners with Special Needs, in Tembisa was allegedly raped by a 17 year-old who is at a Vocational phase.

It is alleged that, the perpetrator followed the victim in the Autism Phase classrooms which are barricaded from the vocational area and allegedly raped her behind the classes. An assistant teacher saw the perpetrator coming from behind the classroom zipping up his pants and the victim was also seen pulling up her pants.

Police were called, and arrested the perpetrator and later released him in the parents custody.

Both parents came were informed. The SGB will take necessary disciplinary action.

“Our Psycho Social Unit will be supporting both schools tomorrow, 13 February 2020.”
