A 47-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after he was caught driving 204km/h on the N3 highway with his BMW M5. According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the man claimed that he was rushing his passenger to hospital after noticing Covid-19 symptoms.“The driver was taken to the Bedfordview police station. A passenger, who was interviewed by officers on site, denied being infected.”
Another driver, a 34-year-old man, was arrested for driving 168km/h on the N12, with his nine-year-old son as a passenger. He told police he was rushing to pick up a cake for his son’s birthday. Another woman claimed she was late for a dentist appointment after caught going 174km/h in her BMW 1-series. All three suspects were charged with reckless driving and will appear in the Palm Ridge and Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
